NOTE: The AUGUST Steel Challenge match will be the FIRST Sunday of the month (August 3rd). We return to the normal schedule in September.

The next SLOSA Steel Challenge match is Sunday, August 3rd.

We will shoot all 8 stages with 195 minimum round count (with no misses). See you there!

NEW FOR 2008

Something new for 2008:    In addition to the monthly results, we have a contest for the best of 2008. To be eligible, you must complete at least six SLOSA Steel matches during 2008 in the same category. For instance, six times in Iron Rimfire or six times in Open Optics. We will take the six best scores from each shooter who meets this requirement and sum them up. The lowest total in each category is the winner. The current plan is to give awards to the top three in each category.

Remember: you must shoot at least SIX times in the SAME CATEGORY in 2008 to be eligible!

How's it going so far? Well, there are lots of ways to slice the results at this point since with only six matches completed, few will have shot the required six times.    But, here are a couple different snapshots:

SLOSA Steel Challenge matches are the Sunday after the 3rd Saturday of each month, starting at 9:00 AM. Get it? It's a little tricky. Usually, it's the 3rd Sunday, but sometimes it's the 4th. The Steel match is on the Sunday after the ICORE match.

Registration begins at 8:00 AM, New Shooter Orientation is at 8:30 AM, and Shooting starts at 9:00 AM.
The Steel Challenge is friendly to all gun, sight and action types. Shooters can participate in many different categories.

Centerfire categories include:
   Open (optics), Limited (USPSA guidelines),
   Iron Sight Revolver, Optical Sight Revolver and Single Action,
   Stock Guns and Holsters of IDPA Stock (SSP), IDPA Enhanced (ESP), IDPA Custom (CDP)

For rimfire shooters, we have:
   Iron Sight Rimfire and Open Rimfire (optical sights)
(Note: A holster is not necessary for rimfire shooters, but a bag or case of some sort is needed to store the gun between stages)

At the national level, the Steel Challenge organization has some additional specialty categories which we do not currently track including:
   Law Enforcement, Top Lady, Pre-Teen (10-12), Junior (13-17), Senior (55-64) and Super Senior (65+)

The 8 Stages of Steel Challenge are:
   Showdown - Smoke & Hope - Outer Limits - Speed Option
   The Pendulum - 5 To Go - Roundabout - Accelerator

Above, you can see images of the nine-bay Hogue Grips IPSC/IDPA/ICORE/Steel range. The first image is looking up Highway 1 toward Morro Bay and the coast. In the second image, you can see the public rifle/pistol and trap ranges above the Hogue range.
