Pop-Gun Night Match
The Youth Sportsmen hold a ‘pop-gun’ rifle match for youths aged 8-17 years of age, starting approximately 7:00 PM (spring/summer)/5:00 PM (winter/fall) each Pop-Gun Night. The goal of the Pop-Gun Match is to provide a fun way for youths to test their skill in a friendly match with their peers. The firearms are those allowed at Pop-Gun Night; air and rimfile rifles. Generally the match is scored and a quick award ceremony is held around 6/8:00 PM.
The normal course of fire is 10 shoots total at the official NRA A-7/5 75 ft. Small Bore Rifle Target at 75 feet/25 yards (Well Duh! ;). As described on the target it self, the competitors shoot
However we have modified the last direction as “... Shots outside of the scoring ring are scored as 4s.” What this means is the maximum score is 100 and the minimum is 40.
Tie scores are decided by X ring (10 ring) counts. Extra shoots on a bull are dropped... by dropping the highest scoring shots on that bull! As a way to level he playing field, the Young Sportsmen have added the following rule in 2007:
There are three categories; shooters aged 8 - 11 years of age, 12 - 14 years of age and 15 - 17.
A trophy is awarded to the match overall high score and gold, silver and bronze metals are awarded to the top 3 shooters in each category. The trophy replaces the competitors normal gold metal.
