Answers to some commonly asked questions

Q) What are the range hours and prices?
A) There are three main public ranges:   Rifle-Pistol, Shotgun, and Archery.   You can find the hours for the main ranges listed on the main SLOSA page ( ) or by clicking here.   There are also a large variety of monthly matches held at the range including a high power match, cowboy action shooting, a variety of action pistol matches, muzzleloader and others!    For the times and other details about any of those matches, please visit the match page.  When viewing this website in desktop mode, click on the link for the match you want in the blue "bubble" along the top of the page.

Q) Where is the range located?
A)  We are on HIghway 1 between San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay, about 2 miles north of Cuesta College.
To navigate to the range using your GPS or smartphone, use: 3270 Gilardi Road, San Luis Obispo, CA 93405
When you exit the highway, you will be on a short driveway which splits.
If you are coming to the Rifle-Pistol, Shotgun, or Archery ranges, turn left and head down the road about 1/10th of a mile.
For action pistol matches, you will find the Hogue Action Pistol range directly in front of you.  Park in the dirt parking lot just to the right of the driveway where you exited the highway.
For Cowboy Action Shooting, Muzzleloader and other back range matches, turn right from the highway exit driveway and follow the road to the back range.

Q) Do you rent guns?   Do you sell ammo?
A)  We do not rent rifles or pistols.   The Shotgun range does have guns available (see the Shotgun page for more info).   We are not allowed to sell ammo at the range.  The Archery range also does have equipment available, please see the Archery page for details.

Q) What sort of introduction or instruction is available?
A)  The range safety officers (the men and women who run the range) are happy to give informal instruction on safety and techniques as time allows during normal business hours.   In addition, SLOSA hosts Hunter Safety classes and a women-focused introductory program called GALS.  You can also search this link for NRA sponsored classes taught at our range or elsewhere

Q) Do you have gift certificates or gift cards?
A) Yes, we have a gift certificate/card program.

Q) Why isn't the road paved?
A) In a word: Money!   Doing a proper paving job of even just the road from the highway to rifle-pistol & shotgun/archery would be an expensive project.    We have chosen instead to focus keeping the range fees reasonable and improving the shooting experience at the range.
